When it comes to hooking hogs, there’s nothing hush-hush amongst avid bass anglers about dropshot rigging. The cow has left the barn...
Whether lowered over the gunwale on a sheer break or cast to shallow structure, the simple ensemble of sinker and single hook is both easy to engineer and employ. Once rigged, it takes nothing more than a rattle of the rod tip and the irresistible action of a softbait is underway. (We contend that the pheromone-emitting Trigger X softbaits put the “drop” in dropshot, too.)
But the rig has its flaws... well, did have before VMC engineered the SpinShot Hook. The SpinShot is a superiorly-sharp, dropshot-specific hook forged of high-carbon steel with black-nickel-finish that spins on its own axis. Gone is the entwining associated with this fish-tempting technique.
In fact, the SpinShot hook improves the straightforward dropshot rig so much that it won a spot in Field and Stream’s prestigious “Best New Fishing Gear of 2012”, where the editor’s stated that “VMC’s Spinshot hooks make rigging a snap and create a dropshot that’ll catch more fish.” The SpinShot also took the fishing industry’s “Best New Terminal Tackle” at ICAST, the fishing industry’s hit parade of new products.
“The SpinShot Hook swivels freely on its thin metal post and not only literally eliminates line twist, but allows it free range of motion when fish go berserk, thus they don’t come unbuttoned during the fight. And the two eyelets on either end makes it trouble-free tying for my clients in comparison to the way the original drop-shot rig was knotted,” says Lake Michigan smallmouth guide Chris Noffsinger, whose patrons dropshot in the ultra-clear waters of Lake Michigan’s Grand Traverse Bay. “And the VMC hook’s so sharp it slices into the fish’s jaws with little effort during the hookset.”
VMC’s SpinShot Hook is so effective and simple to rig, you simply have to take one for a spin. Just nip on some Trigger X, deploy and hang on...
