Tweaks and custom-components give Terminator spinnerbaits unmatched specialty status
Flash. Vibration. Undulation. Spinnerbaits have it all. A fish really has no idea what it’s striking, just that it wants to eat whatever it is flickering and pulsating by before another fish in the school gobbles it up.
It’s the “eat now or forever miss out” stance fish take that make spinnerbaits so effective year-round.
At a quick glance, spinnerbaits have a similar, generic look - safety-pin-shaped shaft, flashy blades and a hook buried within a skirt of tentacles. Take a closer look, however, and you’ll note the little (but significant) details, such as blade shape, size and numbers of actual blades; the shape of the head; as well the character and color of its skirt and quality of hook hidden within it that play such a pivotal role in overall effectiveness.
For years, high-quality, long-lasting spinnerbaits were hard to come by. Just two or three bass or one gnarly marauding pike was all it took and the bait was destined for the trash can. Then, Terminator arrived on the scene and changed the game with its patented “SnapBack” titanium wire frame. Now, a host of fish can be caught and the wire never deforms, thus the lure keeps running true and anglers need not fear breaking off do to frame failure.
Blades and Beyond
The vibration emitted by Terminator’s spinnerbait blades resonate through a fish’s lateral line and grab their attention from afar, while flash from the high-quality chrome silver and gold finishes mirror fleeing baitfish.
The narrow shape of the double willow-leaf blades on the T-1 Original and Power Pulse QuickSkirt spinnerbaits are excellent for rippling just under the surface. The same lures’ accompanying Colorado-style blade yields extra vibration, which is meaningful in stained water or when slowing the lure down to tickle the weed tops.
The unique shape of the single “Oklahoma Thump’r” Hydro-Flow blade and specialty head on the Titanium Short Arm Thump’r, on the other hand, are perfect for slow-rolling the bottom over structure like rock or wood. The wide, deep cupping of the blade gives off a solid thump while keeping the spinnerbait aloft even retrieved at a crawl.
Even more distinctive is the Titanium Twin Spin, with its duel arms and Oklahoma blades. This particular spinnerbait excels when employing a stop-and-go action, which fish rarely see in a lure, but is common locomotion for forage in nature. It can literally be fished by letting it fall to the lake floor after the cast, and then retrieved with a lift and drop of the rod tip that creates a slow “jigging” motion just off bottom. (Attention walleye anglers: This spinnerbait is great for pulling through reservoir treetops behind Sufix 832 Advanced Lead Core - a sizzling hot tournament-winning tactic.)
All Terminator spinnerbaits are adorned with super-soft silicone skirts. The deadly T-1 Titanium Spinnerbaits with Power Pulse QuickSkirts have trailer extensions for concealing an additional VMC TL Trailer hook, and can undergo color changes in a flash.
Don’t be led to believe all spinnerbaits are created equal. Terminator knows there’s nothing further from the truth... and so do the bass.
