Trigger X has introduced a bigger version of its Slop Hopper swimbait and a medium-size version of its Hodad creature bait. Bass beware!
With a slender profile and a hard-pounding tail, the new 5-1/2 inch Slop Hopper is the ideal bait when finicky Bass need a little something different - and anglers want a bigger bite.
“The Slop Hopper is not a not a normal swimbait,” says 2012 Forrest Wood Cup Champion Jacob Wheeler, who fished Trigger X baits en route to that win. “It has this boot-like tail which is going to make it wobble like crazy.”
Best rigged Texas-style on a VMC® Wide Gap or Weighted Swim Bait Hook, the Slop Hopper effortlessly hops through the heaviest slop, or can be fished just below the surface like a swim bait in open water. But get ready to hold on as it performs with a twisting, rolling and hopping action unlike any bait anglers or fish have seen.
“I love this bait for throwing around docks, throwing under docks and throwing around weeds,” Wheeler says. “It’s just an ultimate bait when you’re looking for bigger bites.”
He usually rigs his Slop Hoppers on a 1/4 oz. jighead or a 6-0 VMC Swimbait Hook.
The new, larger Slop Hopper is available in 14 color patterns and comes five per pack.

Say hello to my little friend... the Hodad
Now available in a 3-1/2 inch size, the gangly craw-tubed Hodad features a solid head, durable, thick-walled tube body and alluring, slow-responding appendages that draw fish in with an open mouth.
“It’s one of my favorite baits to flip around wood and weeds,” Wheeler says, noting that it’s unique as a creature bait due to its tube-shape body. “What allows that to do is to fall erratically.” Two long appendages on the bottom provide additional action. He’ll also Carolina Rig it and use it as a jig trailer.
Previously, the bait had been available in 4-inch and 3-inch models.
“This new one is the in-between size that’s going to allow you to get more bites,” Wheeler says.
Flipped, pitched, cast or Carolina rigged, the newly sized Trigger X® Hodad is built for versatility and abuse in heavy cover. The 3 1/2-inch Hodad comes eight per pack, in 17 color patterns, four of them new:
- Red Bug - Combines a deep red body with green and black fleck
- Delta Black Red - Two-tone with a little Green Pumpkin-Red on one side and Black Neon/Black-Red on the other.
- Blueberry Candy - Two-tone with Black-Blue on one side and Green Pumpkin Candy on the other.
- Carolina Bug - “It’s sort of June Bug with Watermelon-Green Pumpkin-Red,” Wheeler explains.
Wheeler likes the two-tone colors, particularly.
“A lot of times, you go out on a body of water and you look at the forage that they’re actually eating, there’s two tones,” he explains. “Throwing that two-tone can really get you a few more bites throughout the day.”
On lakes, rivers or reservoirs, “where ever you’re fishing around the country, it’s a super good bait,” Wheeler says. “You’re going to get a lot of bites on it.”
