After Michael Ippolito’s grandfather passed away last winter, his father asked if he’d like some momentos with which to preserve his grandpa’s memory.
“Without hesitation, I told him I would really like to have his fishing gear, as my grandfather was the one who taught me how to fish,” Michael recalled. “I spent many summers … fishing with him, and even after leaving for school we always shared fishing stories over the phone and during holidays – it’s what kept us close.”
Upon opening the box of fishing gear, he found a treasure that further crystalized his memories of his special times on the water with his grandpa.
“At the bottom of the box were a few Rapala lures,” Michael recalled. “I can't describe to you the happiness it brought me as I pulled the lures out of the box. Each one reminded me of his love of fishing and how he passed down the love for the sport.”
Michael posted this touching testament to his grandfather on Rapala USA’s Facebook page, along with this photo of the baits he found in the box.
“Here is a picture of the lures he left behind. Each one is a reminder of how much he meant to me,” Michael explains. “One of these days, I plan to go back to the lake I spent so many hours fishing and throwing a few of these lures out.”
Although not all fans share such personal and poignant reflections on Rapala’s Facebook page, Michael’s story is indicative of the passion that anglers have about Rapala baits and the prominent place they have in the moments and memories most precious to them.
